Christmas Star Dress & Capelet

My sweet little girl is graduating from Kindy and
she is going to be a star for her concert.
I asked her if she would like me to make her a special dress to wear
and she was so excited that she wanted to go straight to the fabric shop.
She had to wait until the following day but
when we got there she found the perfect fabric.

She chose a daffodil yellow quilting cotton with an
organza foil star layer over the top.
The organza was surprisingly easy to work with.

I used the Sophia dress pattern by Lily Bird Studio.
This is one of my favourite patterns. I have noticed that it is on the smaller size.

I used the size 6 for my 4.5 year old and it fits perfectly.

It has such an amazing twirl factor!

The Simple Life Company recently released the Juliette Capelet pattern
and I though it would make the perfect accompaniment to the dress.
Best of all, this pattern is FREE!

My little girl loves her new outfit, however
I am a little worried about the concert.
I have a feeling the kids might have to wear their school uniform
and just wear a star headband as the costume.
If that is the case I hope little Scarlett is not too upset.
I'm sure she will be happy to wear it for Christmas day.

My baby girl wasn't feeling the best today.
After the photos she came and laid down on the lounge and dozed off.
Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have this wish I wish tonight.

I Made Some Lounge Pants for My Girls

Today I made some lounge pants for my girls.

I went to the Salvos the other day and found this pink knit fabric.
It was only $1.50. I thought it would be perfect for some new jammies.

As I am not very experienced with sewing with knit fabric, I decided to take the easy way out and finish the hem with lettuce edging. That way there was no worry about stretching the hem :)

I had enough fabric left to make a couple of headbands which I added a big bow to.

My little one was getting tired right about now.

...and with tired, comes tears...

Luckily she has a great big sister who knows how to make her laugh ♥

Don't the pants look comfy ?

I used Butterick 4695 for my little one's pants.

And for my bigger girl I used the Ben & Mia pattern from Lily Bird Studio.
I added a little extra height to the waist so I didn't have to add a separate waistband.
I also lengthened the leg and reduced the flare slightly.

Angelique's Dress - Pattern Testing

Angelique's Dress - Pattern Testing
Pattern by - Lily Bird Studio

I had the pleasure of testing another one of Cecilia's patterns.
The gorgeous Angelique's Dress.

It has so many pretty little features like gathered pockets,
front and back pleats and an invisible zipper.

It couldn't have come at a better time for me as
I had just purchased an invisible zipper foot.

I found this dress a little on the challenging side,
but nothing someone with reasonable sewing skills couldn't achieve.

I decided to add a little fabric bow to the front of the dress.
The pattern also suggests that you could use ribbon for the bow.

A little girls dress with pockets will always be a hit.

And wearing a dress always requires a little spin ;)

If you are very quick you can get this pattern for a great value!

Medieval Fancy Dress Party

Medieval Fancy Dress Party

My daughter had her 21st birthday this week and to
celebrate she had a Medieval themed fancy dress party.

Our family are huge Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings fans
so this party was something we were all excited about.

I scoured op shops, looking for all things medieval and had some great finds.

For my dress I used Simplicity 9891
I found a Mason and Logan Quilt cover at the op-shop, which I used for the main part of the dress.
The center panel and neck piece was a beautiful table runner, again from the op-shop.
My necklace was an op-shop find too.
Grand total for my outfit was $18

My son's cloak was made from 2 vintage bedspreads, found at the op-shop.
The fur for the collar was purchased from Spotlight.
I made the collar removable so the cloak could be easily washed.
The tunic was made from a sheet and the gold edging was taken off a table runner.
I found these items at the op-shop and used Simplicity 1582 for the pattern.

My husband's vest was made using a quilt cover found at the op-shop. I used Butterick 4574.
He wore the same white shirt that he wore for our wedding almost 20 years ago.
Both belts were a great score from the op-shop, $1 each.
Total cost for both outfits was less than $30

My son is wearing a vest I made using the Woolen Vest pattern from Little Kiwis Closet.
I extended the length and used fabric from my stash.
The pants are based off the Ben & Mia pattern from Lily Bird Studio.
I narrowed the leg and added the cuff. The fabric was left over from my dress.
I found his Italian made leather boots that are lined in wool at the op-shop.
These were a great find as they were brand new!
Total cost $4 (for the boots)

My youngest daughters dress was made using upholstery/furnishing fabric I found at Spotlight.
I used McCall's 5499 It was slightly too big for her as the sizing is 3-4 and she is in a 3.
The slightly stiffer fabric works well for this dress as it holds it's shape well.
Total cost $12

My next daughter is wearing a dress made from an op-shop quilt cover
and some of my super special lace fabric. The trim is also from my stash.
I used this tutorial and combined it with Simplicity 2306
Total cost $6

I also made my son-in-law his outfit which I have not got any clear pictures of.

And finally I made this cape for my other daughter.
This turned out quite beautiful and was made from a quilt cover.
It's a pity I didn't get any good pictures of it though.

It was a fabulous night and I thoroughly enjoyed sewing with a mission.
I shall leave you with some of my favourite photos of the evening.
